Milwaukee Wave

The Milwaukee Wave are the oldest continuously operating professional soccer team in North America. The team was founded on August 3, 1984 as a member of the American Indoor Soccer Association and has played in every season and incarnation of that league (see MISL). Milwaukee has hosted the 2003 and 2006 MISL All-Star Games. They are coached by Keith Tozer, who has coached them for 16 seasons and is the most successful coach in MISL history. He is assisted by Art Kramer. The Wave will play in the new XSL for the 2008/09 season
The Milwaukee Wave recently eclipsed the 3-million-fan mark and became the first indoor soccer franchise in North America to win 500 regular season games. Now in 2008-09, the club plays its 1,000th game and celebrate its 25th anniversary, both firsts for a franchise in this uniquely American version of the world¹s most popular sport. Such rich history often evolves from humble beginnings. In the Wave¹s case, that genesis was on Nov. 10, 1984, when the club debuted as one of six charter members of the American Indoor Soccer Association. Before a near-sellout crowd of 3,146 fans at the Milwaukee Auditorium (now the Milwaukee Theatre, next door to the Wave¹s current home), the Wave defeated the Chicago Vultures, 8-7.
